Bold, tell-it-like-it-is job search advice for executives and aspiring leaders - from multi-award winning resume writer and coach, Gayle Howard.

Being valued makes all the difference

Posted July 24th, 2008 Category: Thinking the right way

Consider the most mundane of jobs. What makes people stay loyal–sometimes for decades until their retirement–repeating the same tasks again and again? It is the sense of community and the sense of belonging, that makes individuals happy with their contributions and their place in an organisation. A company that values its people and communicates that value in a tangible way by creating a sense of community in its workers can spark a passion for just going to work regardless of how routine the task. Just being valued can make a process worker in a factory become the best process worker he or she can be. Passion and motivation isn’t just the domain of high-powered executives. Every single employee can and will have a passion for what they do, if they feel their efforts and contributions are valued.
